Introducing 17 Energy
We announce today the launch of 17 Energy Ltd, a UK-based renewable energy company. Our mission is to lead the just transition by developing transformational utility-scale renewable energy projects that directly address the climate emergency, energy security and biodiversity crises. Through our projects, we are aiming to contribute to wider development priorities such as social and economic equality. Our name is inspired by the 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
The founding team is an international collective of engineering, science, and financial professionals with decades of multi-disciplinary offshore wind expertise, co-led by Úna Brosnan and Dan Kyle Spearman.
We understand the critical role that a focussed, large-scale rollout of renewable energy generation will play in enabling a transition away from fossil fuels, the key driver of climate change. We believe this effort also has genuine potential to unlock diverse benefits beyond the core goal of electricity decarbonisation, if structured correctly.
We see these projects as being in service to a broader set of human priorities for a better world – from education, equality and access to clean water, sanitation, shelter and food, to the pursuit of a healthy, balanced natural environment.
At 17 Energy, we are evolving the development model, recognising the twin priorities of ensuring a meaningful transition and creating bankable projects. As we drive the evolution of best practice in our sector within a rebalancing renewables market, we advocate for a buildout of large-scale renewables aligned with the 17 SDGs for a more prosperous society.
